A veneer, made of a thin layer of porcelain, is used to cover an existing tooth to restore the tooth or improve its aesthetics. At least two appointments are generally required for this procedure: an appointment for shaping the tooth and the another for fitting the veneer. There are multiple reasons that our customers would like veneers:
- Chipped or Decayed teeth – Chipped teeth can occur due to accidents such as sport collisions and tooth decay is caused by acid-producing bacteria attacking the enamel on the tooth’s surface. The former’s visual appearance can be improved by veeners but also improve the symptoms associated with chipped teeth such as an uneven bite. Sometimes veneers are ideal for restoring decayed teeth, however the extent of the decay may not make this possible. Consequently, alternative treatments will be recommended.
- Stained Teeth – Without a doubt, stained teeth can affect confidence and therefore some of our patients would like veneers to improve the cosmetic appearance of their teeth. This is an ideal option when teeth whitening has been unsuccessful or has only provided minimal results.
Veneers can be matched to your other teeth to have the same shape, look, colour giving a natural look. Moreover, veneers are expected to last years dependent on good oral hygiene. Finally, although crowns have some appealing cosmetic appearances, patients may prefer the option of veneers because the procedure only involves a minimal amount of tooth destruction.
